My main research interests are software-defined networks, cloud computing, big data analytics and HPC. My current research subject is software-defined networks for data centers with specific focus on big data applications.
Ph.D. project (2010-2015): Application-aware software-defined networking to accelerate MapReduce Applications
In my Ph.D. work I proposed a system that improves the performance of MapReduce jobs through runtime communication intent prediction and dynamic fine-grained control of the underlying data center network. The direct value driven by this Ph.D. research was in the performance improvement brought to MapReduce by optimizing its communication-intensive phase via appropriate network control, which may result in faster Big Data analytics and thus reduced time-to-insight. To this end, the Ph.D. dissertation tackled the research challenges related to application-aware software-defined networking in data centers running Big Data analytics.
